Otis "OP" Pomeroy
Otis Pomeroy, age 81, passed away on the morning of January 15th. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Pomeroy for 50 years and the loving father of Rick (Tracey) Pomeroy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Coomer, Jimmy Pomeroy and Garrett Pomeroy and great grandchildren Charlie Coomer and JJ Coomer.
Otis is further survived by his brother Duane Pomeroy, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his late wife, Patricia, Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Ruth Pomeroy; his brothers, Clarence and Laurence "Bud", his sisters Jenny, Rosella and Charlotte.
Otis was a Vietnam Veteran, honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He moved to Milwaukee, WI and worked the majority of his career at Falk Corporation. He was a skilled fisherman and hunter, longing for the days when he was able to fish on the Mississippi River with his family. Walleye was a family favorite and we could always count on Otis to keep the freezer stocked. Once his health prevented him from joining "the guys" during hunting season, he was grateful to still occasionally receive venison.
Otis discovered the joy of deep-sea fishing as well, when a friend asked him to join in on a trip to Mismaloya, Mexico. He became fast friends with his favorite boat captain, Sergio Lopez, and made annual trips for over 20 years! The friends that would join Otis on the trip varied, as they knew they were in for early mornings and long days on the boat. Otis was committed to catching "the big one" and loved being on the water. Otis often thought about what it would be like to go fishing one more time.
Otis embraced technology and even with limited skills, still managed to stay connected with friends around the world through ZOOM and Facebook. He "sent flowers" with pictures to many friends as he wished them good morning. One of his favorite times of the day was connecting with friends in Nebraska at 6:15 am. Otis would also remark on how he missed seeing his friends in person at Pass It On Club.
Otis was fiercely loyal and was quick to recommend the businesses of friends to those who had need of their services. If you needed a plumber, general tinkerer, mechanic, snow shoveler, etc. he would happily pass on the name of someone he knew in the business. He was Boo! The Band's top fan and would often share how impressed he was by the musical talent of his son and grandsons.
The family wishes to thank the Staff at St. Luke's that provided care for Otis in what ended up being his final days. We are also grateful to the exceptional care provided by Dr. Holoshitz and the Structural Heart team at Ascension CSM. Your care provided a wonderful opportunity for quality family time together and a Christmas Eve to remember! Special thanks to Catherine and her fishing photos that "aggravated his illness", Pam and Mary for their "Meals on Wheels", Tom for being next door neighbor of the year, and mostly to a Higher Power that provided strength to see a better way to work and live.
A celebration of life for Otis will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Forest Park Presbyterian Church - 2300 S. Sunny Slope Rd. in New Berlin. Visitation begins at 10:30 am followed by a service at 12:00 noon. There will be a private interment at a later date with the immediate family.
Otis' favorite charities were Pass It On Club and any organization supporting Veterans, particularly from the Vietnam Era.
