Obituary

Always a faithful servant of the Lord, Pat Tillman was called to eternal life October 31, 2021, surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends.

Born June 21, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Edna Moran and John Monaghan, Pat was the youngest child of five, John Monaghan, Jane (Monaghan) Hanf, Thomas (Pete) Monaghan and Ann (Monaghan) Nazar.

Educated in the Catholic tradition, Pat's formative years were spent at Toledo's Gesu Catholic School, then DevilBiss for high school, followed by enrollment in Mercy Hospital nursing education program, where she excelled academically and graduating with a four year degree in nursing.

In spectacular style, on October 8, 1949, Pat married her lifetime love and grade school sweetheart, Tom Tillman at Gesu Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio, followed by a reception at the Toledo Club. The newlyweds relocated to New York as Tom accepted a position with the Pennsylvania Railroad, working on Steam locomotives in Grand Central Station. This early career in the locomotive industry began a lifelong love affair with rail travel for the couple. Their marriage was graced by many trips along the rails both in the continental US and abroad, including the Orient Express. They loved to travel by train "Because it takes time, you can slow down, enjoy and watch the scenery unfold before you".

Tom's next career move called the couple back to Toledo, to join the family owned Unicast Steel Corporation. Content in Toledo surrounded by the love of both of their families. Pat worked at Mercy hospital and eventually became a head nurse for the coronary unit. Pat and Tom found it was time to begin their own family, welcoming their first child, son Tom in 1955, followed shortly by daughter Tracy, and son's Scott and Todd, only 10 months apart. These were busy years filled with the laughter of children around the pool, family gatherings, sailboat trips to Cedar Point and a great deal of love.

The family business, Unicast was eventually sold and the family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Tom accepted a new, challenging position with Grede Steel as Vice President of Technology.

Pat and her family readily embraced the many gifts only those who reside in Wisconsin can understand: The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (Pat and Tom held season tickets), the beauty of Lake Michigan, the Green Bay Packers, and of course her Faith Community at St. Mary Parish, where they were a constant fixture in the front pew.

Pat Tillman was a wonderful, caring wife, mother and friend, full of life and a willingness to help and always offered words of wisdom, a heart of forgveness, and an unshakable moral character. She was proud of her Irish heritage and patron of the arts, specifically the symphony. Most of all, Pat was a woman of great faith, a strong matriarch who always put family first, striving to set the example for us all. We will forever be grateful for the time we shared with her, but, as has been promised us Pat, good and faithful servant, we will be reunited again in our eternal home in heaven someday.

Surviving are her children; Tom (Carla) Tillman, Tracy (Eric) Tormoen, Scott (Tracy) Tillman, daughter-in-law Sue Tillman, and Sister Diane McGee (Tillman). She will be fondly remembered by her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Tom and Chris Tillman, Brittany (A.J) Schuler (along with great-grandson Jackson) and Kali Tormoen, Nick (Jessica) Tillman, Shelbi (Christopher) Kauer (along with great-granddaughters Kapri and Arrow), Joey Tillman, Evan and John Tillman. Preceded in death by her youngest son, Todd Tillman who, undoubtedly, is awaiting her with open arms.

The Tillman family would like to acknowledge and thank Elizabeth's Residence in Franklin, Wisconsin. Pat spent the last nine years under the loving care of the staff at this facility. We thank you all for your kindness, love and support you showed Pat and her family.
