Obituary

Philip Bright Hanson, Jr., of Hales Corners, passed on Friday, August 4, 2023, surrounded by family.

Phil was born on January 1, 1952, in Duluth, MN, the son of Philip and Mary Ann (Carlson) Hanson. On January 31, 1994, he married Melinda J. Hughes in Las Vegas, NV. Phil was loving, supportive, and generous. After graduating from Whitnall High School in 1970, he went to Ripon College where he played football and graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics. He enjoyed a distinguished career in the food industry, ultimately succeeding his father as President of Hanson Sales and Marketing. He took great pride in his work and building many long-lasting relationships with his business partners.

Above all else, Phil enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a champion for his children and grandchildren and was so proud to celebrate and share in their accomplishments and milestones. He found great joy in holiday festivities and honoring longstanding family traditions. He would often spend time sharing stories and laughing with friends at Senft's tavern. Phil also enjoyed watching football, golfing, and vacationing at Lido Beach in Sarasota, FL. He took comfort in the routines of daily life, but he also appreciated the occasional indulgence, particularly when shared with those he loved.

Phil will be sadly missed by his two children, Erica (Ryan) Kallies of Middleton and Tony (Molly) Hanson of Greenfield; six grandsons whom he adored, Austin, Noah, & Brady Kallies and Declan, Alex, & Ethan Hanson; sisters, Carla Kurzynski of Hales Corners and Billie Jo (Pete) Cook of Franklin; sisters-in-law, Marilea Reinke of Beaver Dam and Janelle Anderson of Fond du Lac; brothers-in-law, Steve (Patrice) Hughes of Beaver Dam and John (Mary) Hughes of Newnan; and further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; sister-in-law Lynette Zieske; brother-in-law, Jerry Reinke; and nephew, Aubry Stewart.

A memorial gathering will be held at Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Rd., Hales Corners on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 3 to 5 pm. Memorial Service 5 pm.
