Philis M. Harper of Burlington was born to eternal life on Jan. 28 at the age of 69.

Beloved daughter of Virginia Harper. Cherished sister of Jan Dwyer (nee Harper). Precious aunt of Dr. Christopher Dwyer and Jessica (Brooke) Harper. Great-aunt of Maitlin Dwyer and Coen Dwyer. Preceded to heaven by her father, Philip Harper and brother, Wyatt Harper. Also, lovingly remembered by cousins, other family, and many friends.

Born in Terre Haute, IN, Philis attended the University of WI and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. She worked for a number of years as an engineer, electronics designer and artist. Notably, she worked at Bucyrus-Erie, Marquette Electronics and Motorola in Chicago in addition to working as an engineering contractor for a number of manufacturing firms. Much of her career was spent designing cell phones and she also worked on early prototypes of electric cars.

Throughout her life, Philis was an exceptional athlete. She competed in international cross-country ski races, marathons, and charitable runs. Philis also was an accomplished scuba diver, Lake Michigan sailboat sailor, bicyclist, and an avid exercise fanatic.

She was known for her caring for her nieces and nephews and all creatures, great and small. Philis had a kind heart and a generous spirit. Although her health suffered later in her life, Philis did her best to live life to its fullest and was much loved by those closest to her.

A private service is the American Heart is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Philis's memory may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Heart Association.
