Becky Steffes, age 79, died peacefully on Sunday December 22 after a brief battle with lung cancer, surrounded by family at her New Berlin home. Born in Edgerton Minnesota on March 8, 1934, Becky was married for 45 years to her loving husband John Steffes. She was an active and caring mother and grandmother. She worked for many years as a librarian at Carroll College in Waukesha. Becky was a tireless promoter of social justice issues within her beloved Universalist Unitarian Church. When not advocating for the poor and dispossessed, Becky loved spending time with her extensive family and reading good books. Becky is preceded in death by her three sisters, and is survived by seven children, Mary (Randy), John (Grace), Daniel (Beth), James, Ann, Marguerite (Dan Lane), Jennifer (Andrew Stewart); twelve grandchildren, Megan, Kathryn, Rebecca, Erin, Zachary, Jacob, Dylan, Tiffany, Charlotte, Jonathan, Oona, Cole and her energetic dog Porkchop. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 28th at 1PM at Unitarian Universalist Church West, 13001 West North Avenue, Brookfield, WI 53005.
