Richard "Dick" Komorowski
Richard Albert Komorowski, 83, of West Allis, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 13, 2025.
Born September 5, 1942, in Milwaukee to Raymond and Dorothy, Dick took an early interest in science and medicine. After graduating from Notre Dame High School and the Medical College of Wisconsin, Richard served as a physician at the Oakland Naval Hospital. He then enjoyed a long and productive career as an academic surgical pathologist, specializing in gastrointestinal pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Throughout his career he mentored innumerable young pathology residents and published prodigiously with over 100 journal articles.
Dick had a lifelong love of aviation, including building a homebuilt airplane and owning and flying his Grumman Tiger N315Y for many years. He was a certified flight instructor, performed flight physicals and made an annual pilgrimage to the EAA airshow in Oshkosh. Always busy with his hobbies, Dick was an avid philatelist, a gardener and an Apple computer enthusiast who also enjoyed woodworking, electronics, volleyball and tennis. A passionate Marquette basketball fan, he held season tickets for over 50 years. Throughout his life, he was a connoisseur of the custard stands of southeastern Wisconsin, from Leon's to Oscar's.
Dick met his wife Mary Ann on a double date with best friends. Married for 58 years, they raised two children and enjoyed traveling the US with frequent stops in Disney and Las Vegas as well as many international adventures. Nothing filled Dick's heart more than taking on the title of Grandpa. He adored his three grandchildren. Filled with pride, he discussed science experiments with Anna, shared his love of The Carpenters with Will and "peppered the pill" with Sven.
Preceded in death by his sister Renetta Ploszaj. Richard is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, his children Sue (Tom) Martin and Dan (Britta Petersson) Komorowski; his grandchildren Anna, Will and Sven. He is further survived by his nephew Leon (Cammy) Ploszaj and many family and friends.
Visitation at St. Matthias Catholic Parish, 9306 West Beloit Road, Milwaukee Wisconsin, on Saturday September 27, 2025, 9-11am. Funeral mass to be held at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Richard will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his intelligence, generosity and goofy sense of humor. Play your Carpenters album and enjoy a scoop of frozen custard in Dick's memory.
