Richard Ernest Malzer passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on November 30, 1944, in Garrison, North Dakota. Richard will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the many memories he created with those he loved.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years and was deployed to Germany for one year. Following his military service, he built a long and successful career in the airline industry. He began his career with North Central Airlines, continued with Republic Airlines, and ultimately retired from Northwest Airlines after nearly 38 years of dedicated service. In addition to his airline career, Richard was also a hardworking entrepreneur, operating Dick’s Lawn Service for over 30 years.
Richard enjoyed spending his free time camping and golfing, and he also loved watching sports — especially basketball. These interests allowed him to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. He especially loved traveling and looked forward to his trips to Destin, Florida, and Door County, Wisconsin — places where he made many cherished memories with family and friends.
Above all else, Richard was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Malzer; his daughters, Colleen Wey and Bridget Olson; and his five grandsons, Kaden, Damon, Austin, Nolan and Brexton, who brought him immense pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha Malzer.
Richard’s legacy lives on through the love he shared, the values he instilled, and the memories his family will treasure forever.
