Age 89. Long time resident of Milwaukee found eternal peace on Friday, October 20, 2017. Born in Medford, WI, he was one of five children who worked on the family farm. He graduated high school in 1941 and shortly thereafter moved to the city and began working at Milwaukee Forge. After a few years, he left the city for Price Patrick Island in the Northwest Territory of Canada to serve at a remote weather station. Based on the pictures and stories he frequently shared with his children and grandchildren, this was a particularly fond period of his long life. He then served as a Sargent in the medical corps of the U.S Army until being honorably discharged in 1957. He wed Hazel (nee Koffarnus) in 1958, returned to work at Milwaukee Forge and built a home in Greendale, WI. Later they adopted David Keith and Duane Alan and proudly called Greendale home for 47 years. He retired as a Supervisor in 1990 and enjoyed his retirement years travelling extensively around the world gardening, hunting and fishing. On many Saturday afternoons, he smoked Lake Michigan salmon for the enjoyment of his Greendale neighbors. He was a devoted husband to Hazel for 57 years until her death in 2015. Beloved father of Duane (Meg) and the late David. Proud grandfather of Curtis, Christina, Hunter, Makayla and Jaden Nelson. They brought great joy to his life. Visitation at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 6705 Northway, Greendale on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Memorial gifts may be made to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services in support of Adoption Services, PO Box 1997 MS 350, Milwaukee, WI 53201-1997
