IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Charles
Schmidt
September 3, 1934 – February 10, 2026
Richard C. (Dick) Schmidt was called home to heaven on February 10, 2026 at the age of 91. He was born to Edward and Martha (Hubrich) Schmidt on September 3, 1934. He is survived by his daughters Carol (Steve) Rydzik and Sue (Chuck Jackley) Marcum, grandsons Kevin and Michael Rydzik, Matthew Marcum and great granddaughter Rowan Rydzik, and other family and friends. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dione (Trudell), sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Robert Collard, brother-in-law Rodney Trudell and son-in-law William Marcum.
Dick graduated from Greendale High School in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart on September 10, 1955 . He and Dione lived happily in their Hales Corners home for 50 years, before health problems caused them to sell and move into a senior apartment complex in Franklin. Dione passed away in 2018 and he missed her terribly.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa and friend. He rose to the challenge of raising two daughters, who as teenagers in the 70’s, tested his good nature many times. He taught by example kindness, integrity, honesty, patience and a good work ethic. He had a great sense of humor and was known for sharing funny stories of his childhood, time in the Army and the many interesting people he met during his many years in the insurance industry. He loved spending time watching sports, as he played many in high school. His passion, though, was baseball. As a senior in high school, he had an opportunity to try out for the Milwaukee Braves and joked that he quickly found out he wasn’t as good as he thought he was. He played semi-pro baseball for the Milwaukee City League and coached Little League.
Dick worked in the insurance industry for 50 years and was employed by several of the largest companies in Wisconsin. He retired from R&R Insurance Services in 2004. He and Dione enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Florence, Wisconsin.
His last few weeks were challenging, and he faced it with courage and humor, leaning on his strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held at Hartson Funeral Home (11111 W Janesville Rd, Hales Corners WI, 53130) at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 19th. A service will follow at noon. Pastor Christopher Lockie of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will be officiating. A private internment service will be held at Highland Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Froedtert Community Hospital-Oak Creek and Ruth House Hospice for their care and compassion, and also to Pastor Chris for his spiritual counsel and support.
