In Loving Memory of Richard J. Vernier

Richard J. Vernier, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 24th at Ruth Hospice, surrounded by love and care.

Born on July 31, 1941, Richard was the cherished son of Catherine J. Jezak and Joseph C. Vernier. His life was one of service, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community.

On September 11, 1981, Richard married Audrey Higgins (Thiesenhusen), the love of his life. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Audrey preceded him in death, but their shared memories remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew them.

Richard is survived by his beloved children: Richard (Tami) Vernier of Sun Prairie, WI; Cheryl (Kurt) Horch of Bradenton, FL; Kirk J. Higgins; Kim (Gary) Christopherson of Caldwell, WI; and Kelly (Shawn) Thorson of Mukwonago, WI. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Jeanette Pallasch of Milwaukee, WI, as well as seven treasured grandchildren, Jaimie, Savannah, Luke, Brianna, Kaitlin, Ethan and Dan, and four great-grandchildren, Wheeler, Sienna, Lochlyn and Mackinley.

Richard's life was marked by remarkable achievements and a deep commitment to serving others. He earned a full scholarship to Marquette University for football, but his path shifted when the program was discontinued after his first year. Undeterred, Richard joined the Marine Corps, where he proudly served for four years, embodying the values of courage and discipline.

Following his military service, Richard embarked on a distinguished 35-year career as a police officer for the City of Wauwatosa, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.

After retiring, he continued to share his expertise and passion by teaching Police Science classes at Mt. Scenario College, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

Richard was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Muskego, where his faith and kindness touched the lives of many.

Known for his sharp sense of humor and generous, caring personality, Richard brought joy and comfort to friends and family alike. His legacy is one of love, laughter and unwavering dedication to those he held dear.
