Robert Charles Petoskey, Sr., (Native American name "Gentle-Hearted Bear"), age 79, of Tomahawk, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Rennes Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Rhinelander. He was born February 19, 1935, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late James and Margaret (Bunnow) Petoskey. He was married to Kathleen Huberty on September 19, 1975; she survives. Bob grew up in the Milwaukee area and was a 1953 graduate of Lincoln High School. He worked as a vending machine mechanic, retiring in 1996. Bob loved the beauty of the Northwoods and enjoyed visits to his family cottage on Oneida Lake. In 1998, Bob and Kathy made Tomahawk their permanent home. He enjoyed feeding the birds and deer and watching the bear. Bob spent his spare time golfing and playing lawn jarts. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and children and spoiling the grandkids. Survivors include his Wife, Kathleen Petoskey; 1 Son, Robby (Sandy) Petoskey; 3 Daughters, Cyndee (Terry) Farnham, Wendy (Ron) Taplin, and Tammy Petoskey; 1 Stepson, Jeff (Ginger) DeSeve; 3 Stepdaughters, Dawn Martinez, Tracy DeSeve, and Renee (Jeff) Matthews; 4 Brothers, Larry Petoskey, Joe (Sandy) Petoskey, Jimmy (Chris) Petoskey, and Richard Petoskey; 1 Sister, Donna (Harold) Newton; 8 Grandchildren, Brett, Ronny, Todd, Chad, Amanda, Zachary, Travis and Jackson and 6 Great-Grandchildren, Jordan, Ben, Aubrey, Caiden, Lucian and Elijah. Bob is further survived by extended family and friends in the Milwaukee and Tomahawk areas. He was preceded in death by his Parents and 1 Sister, Patricia. Memorial services for Robert Petoskey, Sr., will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Hartson Funeral Home in Hales Corners, WI, at 2:30 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 Noon until the time of service at 2:30 PM.
