Russel Laurence Schmidt, our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and dear friend passed away November 23, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Russel was the second of four children born to Edward and Loretta (Weber) Schmidt on September 26, 1936. Russel attended Milwaukee Boys Tech High School prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. There, he served as a cook, adapting his mother's delicious recipes to feed thousands of service men and women. After serving in the Army, he was a manager for Sentry Foods prior to finding his true passion – selling real estate. During the course of his forty-plus year career, Russel took great pride in helping his clients put deals together. Russel was a kind, giving person who consistently thought of others before himself. He was always ready to lend a hand, go the extra step, or say something funny to bring a smile to your face. He loved talking politics, especially how he would solve the world's problems. Russel's greatest joy was his family, and we will miss terribly his wonderful presence in our lives. Russel is survived by the love of his life, "Patsy," Patricia (Cieciwa). He was the wise and ever-present father to Stephanie and Ryan, and the fun-loving "Gramps" to Christopher, Luke, Elizabeth and John. He was a brother to James, John and Donna Schmidt. His best friend and brother of 58 years was Jerry Springob. A mass celebrating Russel's life will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 11 am, with visitation before at 9:30 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Wauwatosa. A light lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Milwaukee Rescue Mission or the charity of your choice.
