Russell Spilka, 95, of Franklin, Wisconsin and Scranton, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His beloved wife, the former Shirley Salzman Spilka, passed away May 16, 1988.
Born in Mayfield, he was the son of the late Daniel and Anna Iwanick Spilka and was a 1946 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Russell served our country with the United States Air Force during WWII and received the WWII Victory Medal and the WWII Occupational Medal. Throughout his life, Russel worked as a chemist, retiring from Reichold Chemicals. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Scranton.
Surviving is a beloved daughter, Christine Kelch; his dear sister, Joan Spilka; two sons, Daniel and Michael; six grandchildren, Heather and Nathaniel Smith, Megan Fritz, Shawn Kelch, Michael and Jason Spilka; five great-grandchildren; two nieces, Diane Bielinski and Susan; two nephews, Alexander (Karen) Sosnowski and Walter Jr.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter and a sister, Marion Sosnowski.
A blessing service was held by the Very Rev. Mark Leasure. Entombment Wisconsin Memorial Park.
