Sally Ann Stock (Patlow), of Hales Corners, passed on to eternal life on December 13, 2021, at the age of 91. She and her husband, Sherman Stock (Michaelis) celebrated their 70th year of marriage last June. Sally was the mother of the late Anne Weber (husband Jeff) of Hales Corners, Christopher Stock (wife Ellen) of Kohler and Kathryn (Kate) Milani (husband Hamid) of Wausau; sister to the late Marian Van Atta (late husband Jack) and Barbara Karsten (husband Lee); grandmother of Wendi Horcos, Sahar Milani, Holly Weber, Emily Farris, Billy Weber, Chris Stock, Jr., Rebecca Stock, and Michael Stock; great grandmother to Liam Devan, Teagan Farris, and Faye Farris. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Sally grew up in Milwaukee with her parents and sisters. She graduated from Rufus King High School, received an undergraduate degree from Milwaukee State Teachers College and her Master's in Education from UW-Milwaukee. At age 3, she began studying classical piano at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. After high school she toured as a pianist with the Wisconsin Young Artists.
Sally met Sherman at Rufus King High School, where they sang in the choir. They were high school sweethearts and married in June 1951. After Sherman completed military service in the United States Army and law school at Marquette University, they settled in Hales Corners in 1961. Sally worked as a kindergarten teacher in the Milwaukee Public School System until her children were born. She was a full-time mother for her children and eventually returned to teaching when they were in high school.
Sally was a dedicated volunteer for several social programs such as Project Understanding, and Chapter 220 (School Integration). She was also active in many ecological causes and received a commendation from the Village of Hales Corners for her leadership in establishing one of the first recycling programs in the area. Sally traveled to India and China in the early 70s as part of a pioneering teacher's program.
She was an avid genealogist, and eventually located relatives in Finland and Lithuania, whom she and Sherman visited several times. They also enjoyed world travel, traveling extensively throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and South Africa. They also spent winters in Hawaii for 20 years and in Florida for many years after that. They were also long-time members of Greenfield Avenue Presbyterian Church where she served on the Peace and Justice Committee, supporting causes such as Amnesty International. She was also an active member of the Hales Corners Historical Society and the Finnish American Society.
There will be a church service for members of Sally's immediate family. A celebration of Sally's life will be planned for next summer in an outdoor venue at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wisconsin Public Radio are appreciated.
