Obituary

Dr. Stephen A. Haughey, M.D. passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on May 1st, 2019 at the age of 68 after a courageous fight with cancer.
Steve was born in McKeesport Pennsylvania on September 28, 1950 to Dr. Robert and Juanita Haughey. He graduated from Serra Catholic High School, in McKeesport Pennsylvania in 1968; Marquette University in 1974; Université Libre de Bruxelles Medical School in 1981. He did his Family Practice Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, St. Mary's Hospital.
Steve practiced medicine for 37 years. Twenty-five of those being in solo practice in Elm Grove, with his physician assistant wife Carol (Hess), nurse son Shaun, and filing clerk son Brandon, making it a truly Family Practice Clinic.
Dr. Haughey later in life also practiced medicine at Southside Pediatrics, Muslim Community Health Center, Indonesian Clinic, Luma Healthcare, and Outreach Community Center.
Steve also gave back to the community by volunteering at the Greater Milwaukee Free clinic, Bread of Healing and Filipinio Free Clinic.
Steve was an avid cyclist and rode the Trek 100, Bike MS 150, Diabetes Tour de Cure, and many other charitable rides for greater than 20 years. He was the president of the Milwaukee Bicycle Collective, that provides free mechanical training to youths so that people may put their volunteer time towards earning a bicycle of their own.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Dr. Robert Haughey, mother Juanita (Meadows), brother-in-law Sam Harper, sister-in-law Mary (Hess) Koehnke, sister-in-law Lori Brown-Hess.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol (Hess), two loved sons Shaun and Brandon; sisters Pat Harper, Bonnie (Tony) Yageila, Danielle Graves, Beth (Michael) Moore; brothers Rob (Rosemary Malatesta), Mark, and Phillip (Susan Linders). Steve is also survived by his brother-in-law Tom Hess, brother-in-law Tim (Brenda) Hess, and brother-in-law Dennis Koehnke. Further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many close friends.
A special thanks to Dr. Deepak Kilari and Dr. Kurt Oesterling for their exceptional care and friendship.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday May 25th, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church on 4825 N. Wildwood Ave. Whitefish Bay, WI 53217 with a reception at the church to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be made to the Muslim Community Health Center at 803 W. Layton Ave. Milwaukee, WI.
