Obituary

Virginia B. "Ginny" LastGinny found peace on February 28, 2017 when she went home to Jesus and to be with the love of her life, her husband George, and her beloved mother Muriel.  Dear mother of George Jr. (known as "Chuck" (Donna) Last, Pamela (David) Cureton, and Gary Last.  Beloved sister of Norman (Lois) Caudill and Wendy Bridges.  Preceded in death by her dear brother John, his wife Zethie, and brother-in-law Wayne Bridges.  Loving grandmother of Christy Bauer, Amy Boyd, Nicholas (Shannon) Last, Caitlin (Mike) Shackleford, Eric Cureton, and Kelly Cureton.  Great-grandmother of George Perry and Rayna Bauer, Tyler and Meghan Boyd, Addison and Josephine Last, and Enoch Garcia Jr.  Further survived by aunts, very special nephews and nieces Dan (Kim) Caudill and Kathy (John) O'Brien, and her two great friends and long-time caregivers, Maggie Richardson and Linda Dahms. Ginny had a hard early life, raised in the coal mining region of Kentucky.  She barely escaped the Great Letcher County flood of 1927, which unfortunately, took the life of her neighbor and playmate, among others.  Her first job was picking rocks out of a farmer's field for twenty-five cents a day.  She had lost her mother to tuberculosis when she was a teen, and not long afterwards she left home for Louisville, where she got a job as a waitress.  As soon as she was able, she went back for her brother Norman, and took him with her.  In the course of their travels, she ended up at Chanute Air Base in Illinois, where she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" near the end of World War II.  There she met a dashing young bomber pilot who happened to be her boss.  After she said she couldn't date her boss, he fired her!  She always said she got even by marrying him a few months later.  It's hard to tell who got the last laugh, but we do remember a lot of laughing.  They got a house on base, and Norman finished school, and life was now good to Ginny.  Being married to a career officer back then meant a lot of moving from base to base, and by the time George retired sixteen years later, Ginny had made sixteen different homes for us.  After retiring, George and Ginny ended up in Greendale.  Ginny finally had a permanent home of her own at last, and she loved Greedale.  The two of them became active members of St. Luke's, and Ginny organized clothing drives to help the folks in Appalachia, never forgetting their roots.  She delighted in her grandchildren, and reconnecting with John and Zethie, and her niece, Millie.  After George's passing, Ginny stayed in her house for a while, until retinitis pigmentosa gradually took her sight, and arthritis her mobility.  She could no longer attend church, but still she practiced and lived her faith, right to the end. Visitation Friday, March 10th, 2017, 4 to 6 PM, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 6705 Northway, Greendale.  Service at 6 PM.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.  Interment will be at 10 AM on Saturday, March 11th, 2017, Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield.
