Age 97. Of Wind Lake, Wisconsin passed away peacefully in his home of 57 years on October 21, 2023. He was born on November 22,1925 in Stephenson, Michigan to William and Ethel "nee Andrews" Peterson. When he was 3 years old his family moved to Milwaukee. He was the youngest son of 10 among his siblings.
Walter was a Navy Veteran. He served on the Destroyer Escort USS Jansen 396 during World War II. Upon discharge he attended MOSE. He was employed by Allen-Bradley and he retired in 1987.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Pamela Lee on November 26, 1949. They were married 58 years until her death in 2008.
Walter is survived by his three children, Barbara (Terry) Ries of Aurora, IL, Walter (Launa) Peterson of Littleton, CO and Margaret (Alois) Jeske Jr. of Racine, WI. His eight grandchildren, Julie Ries, Michael (Kelly) Ries, Monica (Jonathan) Crites, Chelsea (Ben) Taylor, Hannah Peterson, Aaron (Brittany) Jeske, Zachary Jeske and Natalee (Joshua) Benning. His 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Nina Fletcher and sister-in-law Lucele Peterson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pamela "nee Lee" Peterson.
Walter and Pam loved to camp and canoe. They traveled all 50 states and canoed the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers. Walter also was an avid bicyclist. He logged many miles on his recumbent bicycle.
Walter was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Wind Lake for 57 years.
A visitation will be held at St. Clare Catholic Church, 7616 Fritz Street, Wind Lake on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 10 am to 10:45 am. Funeral Mass 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family which will be directed to Adaptive Sportsmen Inc.
